Now It's Time To Talk Trees & Shrubs

Our Tree and Shrub Care Program protects your entire landscape investment. We offer finely tuned fertilization, insect, and disease control service for your trees and shrubs. Water, sunlight, and other nutrients all play an important role in keeping your trees and shrubs healthy. However, insects and diseases can still invade your trees and shrubs quickly, so it's important to protect them year-round. Our Program promotes bolder, brighter colors and healthier plants, creating a more beautiful landscape.

7 Seasonal Applications
To Treat and Prevent
Common, Plant Damaging Diseases and Insects

Applied  January-February

We apply a slow-release, micro-nutrient fertilizer to all ornamental trees and shrubs for healthy plants and bolder, brighter colors.

frost damage on holly

Applied March - April

We apply insecticides and fungicides to help prevent damage from insects like aphids and lace bugs, to name a few, and fungal diseases like leaf spot.

aphids on holly

Applied April-May

More insecticides and fungicides are applied. We also apply miticides to prevent spider mites. Spider mites generally live on the undersides of plant leaves, where they may spin protective silk webs. They puncture plant cells to feed causing damage. Additionally, supplemental fertilizer is applied, as needed.

Applied June- July

Next, we apply more insecticides, fungicides and miticides to help prevent damage from insects, spider mites and fungal diseases like leaf spot. Although this seems redundant, fungicides have a short residual and need to be reapplied approximately every 30 days. Supplemental fertilizer is applied, as needed.

Applied - July-August

Yes, we apply more insecticides, fungicides, and miticides! These products help control insect populations and diseases brought on by summer stress. Supplemental fertilizer is applied, as needed.

Japanese beetles

Applied September - October

We use a slow-release, micro-nutrient fertilizer on all ornamental trees and shrubs that includes nutrients needed to promote a healthy root system, new growth and more colorful blooms for the next growing season.

Applied November-December

Horticultural oil is applied to smother over-wintering insects and eggs deposited to survive the winter and hatch in the spring. This reduces insect populations and initial infestations to your shrubbery.

More Blooms,
Healthier Than Ever

We have generally been very happy with our lawn and tree/shrub service. Our camellias have more blossoms than ever this year, and our zoysia lawn was healthier than ever when it went dormant.

Don't Neglect Proper Care For Your Trees & Shrubs

Tree & Shrub Care Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need tree and shrub care?
Our Tree and Shrub Care Program protects your entire landscape investment. We offer finely tuned fertilization, insect and disease control services for your trees and shrubs.
What is the benefit of horticultural oils?
They smother over-wintering insects and eggs deposited to survive the winter and hatch in the spring. This reduces insect populations and initial infestations to your shrubbery.
How can I protect my shrubs from the freezing temperatures?

Adding a layer of mulch to your plants and garden beds will help protect the soil from sudden swings in temperature. We recommend applying a 3 to 4 inch layer of insulating mulch, such as bark mulch or pine straw, around the base of the plant.

Why is fall an important time to fertilize your trees and shrubs?

The combination of warm soil and cool air stimulates root growth in preparation for colder weather. The plant requires less energy and shifts its focus to root development. Fertilizing the plants at this time assists in building stored nutrients (aka energy) to get through winter. Although above-ground growth slows in the winter, the plants' roots never sleep.

When should I plant shrubs?

Fall is a great time to plant or transplant established (most) shrubs and ornamentals. Due to the cooler temperatures, there is less chance of the tree dying from sun scorch or drought.

When should I prune my shrubs?

Generally speaking, shrubs and trees that bloom on new growth should be pruned in the winter and early spring, while those that bloom on old growth should be pruned in late spring or summer.
